“My team leader Michael and I were starting our second month on staff with the UWI Cave Hill Ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ in the 2006-2007 year. Neither of our support was at full level and that month in particular our combined contributions from ministry partners was too low to cover the rent for the apartment we shared, far less food and bills. The month before, our church had covered rent, so we really couldn’t approach them again. How would this workout? Neither of us had the funds in the bank to cover these expenses. To be honest, we hadn’t brought it up as yet in our joint prayers, but it was clear that unless God worked it out, we were in trouble.
That Friday night, we held a lime at the apartment for students involved in the ministry. We didn’t bring up the issue. When it was over, I escorted one of the young law students to her apartment which was just down the street from where we lived. At her door, she handed me an envelope and said, “The Lord told me to give this to you”. It turns out that she had recently attended a law conference in Trinidad and received a stipend. She gave what was left to us. When I got back home. I found US $281.00 in the envelope. It was enough to cover the rest of the rent and so on. I was not expecting God to meet our need like that. Students don’t usually have money to spare, but God provided for her and she obeyed and gave us a tremendous blessing and testimony. The words of Isaiah 65:24 proved true. “And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear”.
